Urgent help and advise needed in Lima

Everyone we need your help. Myself and 5 friends have flown across from Australia to follow the Dakar. The hire company we were supposed to get the bikes from is in Bolivia and apparently unable to to get the bikes to us due to a change in vehicle export rules in Bolivia.
We have spent 10000 dollars each to do this and the hue company is unable to offer any help and just said sorry we can't help. Here's your money back.

This is not what we want.

Can anyone offer a solution to getting the bikes.
We are prepared to buy them if required but are unsure of the procedure required.

Any and all advice appreciated. Our trip of a lifetime is going balls up.

Wow, that sucks bigtime!

Thoughts off the top:
  1. Crossing borders with a bike you just bought locally can be a problem. Some countries you have to be a resident to buy and leave with it. Easy answer: Buy a bike in the main country you want to ride, and you won't have hassles at the border because you won't cross it!
  2. Contact the Honda shop in La Paz Bolivia, they may be able to help. See here.
  3. Contact Kevin Lemes in Montevideo, see what he can do.

  4. Contact Dakar Motos in BA.
  5. There are various rental companies, see our links pages for some of the good ones. They may well be all booked up for the Dakar, but you might get lucky.
That's all I can think of at the moment. Your biggest issue is riding any bike across a border. Rental may be ok.

I'm sure others can chime in with some ideas too.

We wish you the BEST of luck!
