From Italy to Nordkapp - August 2013

This is the story of strangers motorbikers, met on the net, that decided to do the legendary trip to North Cape in Norway.
Along the fast German motorways we arrive in Copenhagen, gateway to Scandinavia.

It'amazing the number of wind turbines, are everywhere, among the wheat fields, the forest through the trees, even in the
water in the sea, some high , some lower , some moving...
The roads go on for miles deep among the trees without meeting house, country, nothing.

You can think you have seen a beautiful and "wild" nature in northern Germany ... but nothing compares when landings in Denmark.
If in Germany the roads run through the forest, in Denmark run in the middle of nothing... !
Sometime you can see fields of barley, the rest is nothing, a timeless landscape... and the feeling is that everything going
up north become even more beautiful!

In the evening dinner in the city center, in the famous brewery, where we taste a fantastic meat accompanied by a very good
beer, after this hotel and bed, tomorrow we start again.
At 8:30 am we move to Norway.

After about forty miles awaits us the beautiful Oresund Bridge, which connects Norway to Sweden: the amazing thing,is an
underground passage that runs several miles underwater.
Ticket for tunnel & bridge is about 25 Usd (you pay in SEK ) but the show is worth the price !
Cross the bridge and continue onto secondary roads for a few miles, you can enjoy the panorama of the sea and the bridge itself
Entering in Norway to Oslo, the forests tend to disappear, replaced by wide valleys, some uncultivated.
In general the scenery along this stretch of road is less interesting than before.

Arriving in Oslo, after shower and dinner, we bring to the city center and the harbor area, it's very impressive
illuminated by the bright lights of the many restaurants and pub.
After the last beer is the time to go to sleep.
This light drizzle, unfortunately doesn't promise well for tomorrow.
The morning started good after all, with the sun obscured by clouds but an acceptable temperature, and especially without rain.
We spend the first hundred miles through forests, along a road wet from the rain of the previous night.
The show is fantastic : the soft light of early morning, the reflections of some timid ray of light reflecting on the wet
asphalt, the mist rising from the forest... in these unforgettable moments I thought back to the movie set in Alaska or
Canada, such as the television series Twin Peaks.

Unfortunately, the rain brings us back to reality; in the mid-morning it starts to go down, just when we want to climb
to Hardangervidda .
After the lunch break, the afternoon is dedicated rapprochement to Bergen , the last real city before the " great north "
where you can find only small village.
During the trip we take a ferry to cross a fjord, and walk several kilometers, always in the rain, bridges and tunnels,
along the coast.
The galleries are numerous, sometimes very long and there is even one with a round!
Once in Bergen, we are tired but we do not miss a dinner of fish and a walk at the harbor before sleeping.
Today was a very tiring day with rain, we must be 100% focused to don't take unnecessary risks.

In these difficult conditions , including wind, slippery asphalt , cold and snow peeping from the tops of the mountains,
I enjoyed it a lot... I arrived at the hotel wet, but it was a wonderful experience!
Nobody could think to ride til Nordkapp without to take cold and rain!
And we are still at the beginning ... as they say in America:"more have to come"

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
