scooter diaries

Not sure if this belongs here, but looks like a good read.

Over at kickstarter, the guy wants to publish the story of his parents...
It's 1959/60, a lambretta scooter, a whirlwind romance and trip through south america.

He made his goal to publish, I hope it becomes like jupiters travels.

I plan on ordering a copy myself...

The Scooter Diaries by Gordon Bowman — Kickstarter

No this isn't a sales pitch, I don't know the guy, I'm just a scooterhead with plans and dreams.

He did get it published. I got myself a copy. An extraordinary read with lots of pictures. I cannot imagine riding a lambretta 150 across latin america two up in 1959.
THE SCOOTER DIARIES

He sends out copies with his mother's autograph and its amazing seeing her in the pictures so tidy and composed.

Those who enjoy this sort of tale may also want to have a look at "Two-Up" By Scooter to Australia which chronicles Michael and Nita Marriott's intrepid 1956 ride from the U.K. to Australia on a 150cc NSU Prima scooter. NSU built Lambretta near copies under licence during the 1950s.

The book has been serialized online and can be found at blogs.internetscooter.com/marriott/

I owned an NSU Prima as a teenager and dreamed of hitting the road. 90 miles out of town was as far as I managed to get in 1964 but the sense of that micro adventure was exhilarating none the less. More power to all who go further.

I LOVE this book - I have it as a pdf if anyone wants a copy just pm me.

I also love "Scooting Through" by Ruth Blayne. You can order a copy from Gininderra Press. It's about two young ladies going two-up on a Lambretta from London to Australia in 1958 or 59. Amazing read!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
