Riding through the Central Himalayas

Always wanted to see these majestic mountains riding on a bike. And yes the trip was worth it.

Day 1:
Left New Delhi early morning (5.00 AM) avoiding the nightmarish Indian traffic and avoided the packed highways (everyone uses them). Riding besides the Indian farmlands reached the town of Rishikesh (This is where the mountains start); got a glimpse of a few Hindu saints as well. Spent the night in a town called Narendranagar 15kms into the mountains.
@Rs200 ($4)a night, couldn't help but smile.

Day 2:
Had breakfast and left Narendranagar at around 9.00 AM and went towards the hill station of Mussoorie. Beautiful roads and unending mountain ranges... you cannot describe them in words.Stayed in Mussoorie for the night. ($15 for the accommodation)

Day 3:
Started for Dehradun there were two routes one was 38 km and the other was like 125 km. Took the longer one. Good decision. Around 15 vehicles passed me from the other side. There were times when it was just me, the bike and the road... Halted in Dehradun for the night. ($6)

Day 4:
Again avoided the highways, took the alternate route back to delhi through the country side... reached Delhi at night.

Total Distance Covered 1240 km. It was like my first long distance bike ride. Enjoyed doing it.

Currently planning a 3000 km bike ride along the peninsular India. Riding along the Western coast of India via Goa (A former Portugese colony) to the southern most point where the Indian Ocean meets the Arabian Sea and The Bay of Bengal to the eastern coast via Pondicherry (A former French colony) and then cutting across the peninsula covering the ancient city of Madurai, the hill station of Ooty etc. If anyone is interested, do get in touch, the bikes etc. can be arranged.
