Journey to the Equator

Hi,

I was an avid user of the HUBB whilst preparing for the trip that follows below. I had a website that is now no longer in use, but my story and photographs have been posted to a new site. So if you fancy a good read about motorcycle travel in Africa, grab a few s and take a look....

Journey to the Equator
This is a story about a father and son, expert and novice duo, who travelled 20,000km through eight southern African countries on their KLR 650's. Retirees at 22 and 55, they rode for 3 months, straying away from the tourists and tar roads.

Hope you enjoy,

Mike

Hi, guys, lovely trip!. I did the half (from Nairobi to Cape Town) and soon I am going to do the other half. But what I gonna say is both of you are lucky guys. You lived the adventure shared between father and son, riding the same crap and enjoying the same light. You have learnt to know where is the other´s limits, and that is tough for fathers and sons.

I understand your challenge because my father inoculated the bike poison in me. He is 70 and still riding, rode all his life and now he is proud of me because I am riding beyond the horizons. Our motorbike world is hard to understand for normal people who do not ride. It is impossible to explain why we do what whe do. Only another biker can understand us. But if that biker is your father (or your son) riding toghether in the wild, then you have gotten the Jupiter heaven.

Congrats to both of you.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
