The last episode from my trip is now available - Pat Around the Americas: Day 128 to 131 – to home!
After over 20,000 miles of solo travel, please give what you can to Unicef at: http://www.justgiving.com/patrickmccarthy I´ve also uploaded more information on The Gear, with reviews and recommendations. And work is already underway uploading reviews of the bike and Idris' modifications. So more info to come. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-r...0/SAM_2296.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3...0/SAM_2297.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1...0/SAM_2293.JPG PS - thanks Sara for the support - I´ll be following your progress with interest. |
Pat, congratulations on the trip which, like others, I have followed for months. The equipment reviews are interesting as I do have som ethe same as you had ie. HG jacket, tent etc. As I am due to start the same trip but from North to South in May I would be interested (read nervous) on your updated costs.
Regards Dave |
Thanks Dave - and everyone else for the support.
Well the story might be over, for now, but the flow of information continues. If you are interested, I´ve finished uploading the reviews of all the gear I took along with me here: Pat Around the Americas: The Gear And reviews of the bike and all the modifications, here: Pat Around the Americas: The Bike I´ve yet to total up all my costs, but it could be done for around $15k. More to follow soon. Cheers Pat |
Thanks for the info Pat, still helping us along, see you on the road somewhere! :scooter:

In this last post about the trip, I wrap up the story with some thoughts looking back... and looking forward.
Pat Around the Americas: The Epilogue I continue to update the supporting pages of the website - and have, for example, just finished calculating the final full costs (I was putting that bit off). I knew I had blown my budget. By the time I got to the USA and encountered those baking hot days, it was all I could do but dive into some aircon powered motel! Nevertheless, it wasn´t quite as bad as I thought. And it gives me a firm target for my fundraising - so please feel free to give to UNICEF if you haven´t already. Work on the book is well underway, and I hope to be bouncing drafts around in the coming months - so watch this space on that front also. And, just like the blog and website, the book will also be geared towards raising funds for UNICEF. Please do what you can. |
Hola Pat, your blog came in useful again last night, in Arica and something just jogged my memory, the Relaction de passageros! quick trip to the bus station to pick one up (and Peru immigration card) still took 2 hours though, busy and disorganised, !!
|
Cheers fella - glad things are going well for you. Peru is incredible - one of the places I aim to get back to. But be prepared for a drop in driving standards now!
You've just reminded me that I need to load up more border crossing reports. Ride safe Pat |

Just wait until you get to Lima! Girag was pretty easy to be honest - worth sending them a mail at least a week or so in advance to get costs and timings. Give yourself a full day to do the paperwork etc at the airport (they will probably want you there early) before the bikes goes (I was done by midday). And they will want to be paid in cash (so I had to take money out over a few days in advance). There is something on the blog about this bit already - and I'll hopefully get the next few borders loaded this weekend. The road from Puno to Cusco is pretty good... but the road from Cusco down to Nasca (I took two days) was one of the best rides of my trip. In case you are wondering, the dogs on the side of the road are waiting to be tossed food... they seem to have their own stretch of road! :mchappy: Wish I was there! Pat |
Lookng forward to the ride already, cheers Pat :thumbup1:
