New Rider Wind in Midwest Missouri

I am a new rider to the street scene. My wife and family wanted to visit her sister in Lexington Missouri. We live in Clinton Missouri about an hour and a half south of Lexington.
We started off and I was concerned about the ride up. As the curves and hills and some of the hills have curves. Along the way we stopped in Warrensburg Missouri where CMSU (Central Missouri State University) is located. This gas station was very busy to get into and out of. I killed the bike trying to cross to the station. Got over there and waited until my wife and family came back to me from the Wine 101 store. Had to have something to drink after supper that night. The rest of the way was uneventful. I made it just fine, hurray for me!
The next morning I woke at 622am and got dressed after brushing my teeth. Thought I would get an early start as it was sunday and people were sleeping in, less traffic you know. Took my time going out of the town of Lexington. Got the bike good and warmed up. The main highway was very clear as I started heading back home. After getting up to 55 mph I noticed the wind was pretty strong. So of course I held on pretty tight. As I got further down the road I felt the wind was really hitting me pretty hard in the chest. My hands started going numb as I was holding on very tight. So as I drove I would slow down and take my hand off the handlebar and shake and squeeze my hand into a fist to get the hand not feel so numb. This happened for several miles as I tried to relax my grip. Sometimes the wind was so strong I would slow down to 45 mph. I made it back and found out from someone that the wind was blowing at 45 mph straight into my face as I was coming back to my town. So I hope you all be careful if you come to the midwest good ole Missouri, USA!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
