Guatemala to Alaska

Two more days and the long expected day arrives : I will be leaving from Guatemala with the hope to make it to Alaska .
After years of meeting so many of you guys on your way down south or up north , now finally it's my turn .
My wife will meet me next month in northern Mexico and from there on we will be two up on our R1200 GsAdv.
We have no fixed route and a very almost no time limits ; any advise will be greatly appreciated .
Looking forward to meet some of you guys on the road !

Guaterider,

If you want to come to Mexico City you are more than welcome to stay with us. I know a few of your guests stayed with us before getting to you. I can meet you somewhere outside the city and guiide you in.
Good luck and safe travels.

You are welcome to our home here in Canada.I worked for Habitat Para La Humanidad in Departemento San Pedro/ San Marcos. I have ridden up from Guatemala twice during the spring months and I hope you realize that from about Las Vegas and north it will be cold until around the first of May. Going to the west coast would be an option. I have options for your stay here in Canada if you enter B.C. or Alberta.

I will be in Northern Mexico and Arizona all of March but will be home after that. last year I left Alberta for Alaska the first of June and I had a real mix of weather!!! I had days in the Yukon of plus4C but when I made it to Inuvik on June25th it was 28C.
!Buen Viaje!

Yes, hope your plans allowed for the weather! In my neighborhood, some of the best mountain roads are plowed out between May and August. Inquire locally and keep your eye on the weather forecast.

If you're anywhere near me (the far northwestern corner of the continental USA), give a shout. I'm perpetually busy, and in some quarters I'm considered grouchy and snide, but I'll do my best for you with adequate warning. Who knows: maybe you'll catch me in a rare moment of optimism and sunny disposition!

Thank you guys !
Garry, the closest that I will get to the DF is Tepostlan . I've been to the DF several times and I love it, but doing it on a bike doesn't convince me.

Cal, my idea is going through Alberta on my way up and through BC on my way down. I plan to cross into Canada at the end of June . Maybe we run into each other in northern Mexico in late march ; otherwise i will come back to your offer once I'm up north.

Mark, looking forward to meet an other grouch, would be fun not to be the only one !

Gracias y saludos,
Julio

Mid West Visit

Julio
  • Sounds like you have time to spend in the southern and mid-west part of the US before you head up to the freezing north land. We are located in the North West Arkansas that has some of the best riding areas of the US. Both paved and dual sport roads. We spent some of last February/March riding in your neck of the woods, Mexico, Belize and Guatemala and are planning a trip to Alaska leaving around mid-June. You are most welcome to stay with us if you want to visit this area and to show you some of the great rides in the area. Also talk to you about our time in Guatemala. We have all the travel guides for the upper US/North West States, Canada and Alaska.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
