Is anybody following this blog? a trip on a Bantam.

Just wondered if anybody is following Gordon May's adventure on this old BSA Bantam? After a few problems at the start of the trip all seems to be going well....easy, interesting read.

A blog without pictures is like waving a bag of chips infront of a fat bird in cage.

It is all written backwards! Need to keep scrolling up and down to find each chapter.. Why write it like this ??? wouldn't call it an easy read :(
Maybe I am just too picky. :(

I wondered why it started on Day 9 :(

Lots of trip blogs have the latest entry at the top. So the chronology is backwards. Many don't, but many do. It's not the way it's written it's the programme that does it automatically when you upload you blog.
So it starts on Day 1 at the bottom.

I've been waiting for him to set off again as my first bike was a bantam and it's of interest to me, especially as I also live in Egypt.

Hi Dave
Craig and I were talking to Gordon before he left.
He did a book about his last trip to India on a 1960s royal enfield, which is worth a read.

let's hope the bike make's it this time :mchappy:

Have got and read that book, although the Enfield had a few problems, nothing nearly as bad as he is experiencing with the Bantam, but then again I'm not suprised, I am not much of a fan of 2 smokes, especially Bantams!

Pleasure and pain?

I'm following it too, though with more of a technical interest than the journey.
I thought 2 strokes ran at a low compression ratio and, without valve guides, could run on any fuel regardless of octane or lead additive? Obviously, kerosene is a different matter. 95 octane (4 star?) sounds fine to me.
I wonder if the fault is a worn/faulty crank seal. I know the engine has been rebuilt but shit happens. The weak mixture would explain the overheating and overall poor running. A plug chop should confirm?

Good points made, I am following for the journey and well as the tech side of things, one question I keep asking mtself is, that due to the problems that arose on the first attempt, I would have thought that he may well have clocked up a good few miles before departure, but being problems appeared over the first few days of the trip......it appears not to have been the case.
