Black and white from Rovaniemi to Jyvaskyla (Finland)

Stage of pure transfer, which brings us even more to the south of Finland. The forecasts already since yesterday gave high odds of rain, and in the morning when we wake up we find a timid sun trying to be seen through the high gray clouds. The roads are wet and motorbikes, a sign that it rained during the night, but by the time we leave without rain suit? and we do well, because until early afternoon, the situation is optimal temperature around 18-20 degrees, overcast (so no sun to bother) and acceptable traffic altogether.

The negatives are others, namely the monotonous landscape (trees and small lakes, ponds and trees), the roads always just straight (I counted at least 5-6 long straights nearly 10 miles), nothing important to visit (today's the second day in a row that did not even snap a photo with the camera?).
In this situation? Attention is likely to fall quickly (and dangerously): I risked more times (and not just me, I have confirmed my traveling companions) to get to sleep at the helm.

To those who have never done a long road trip sembrerr impossible, but in some cases are taking the risk of driving the bike does exist! To try to stay awake using all the tricks: get to listen to music from? Intercom, calculate the average speed based on the kilometers traveled and the time spent, or count the light poles, to sing, recite poems from memory, please playing with the navigator, open and close the visor of his helmet, etc. etc.. Suffice it to say that today I'm even tired of hearing the playlist I had prepared for the trip and have moved on to other songs at random.

Fortunately, to keep us awake c? Was also a nice crosswind (the? Fortunately?'s Ironic), we banged on both sides of the road: where c? Were trees on either side of the road, wind usually there? was, but it was enough to open a few yards from plants because it would create a side stream to which you had to do a lot of attention.
After lunch, then, the clouds are significantly increased and brought the rain, first lightly and then more and more insistent, until we had to stop to put on rain suits. In total, from? Beginning of the journey, it is the third day that we take rain, although today it is only about a treaty? Now, you ruined the Pern? Last part of the path, forcing us to repair precipitously in hotel.

Here we realized how lucky we were to pass free (indeed, in practice, with sunny and warm) Norway and, most importantly, Caponord? The rain grip at lower temperatures it is very cold and dangerous driving: one taken today, in comparison, it's been a breeze!
Even today we have seen a? Abandoned car in the ditch on the side of the road, but in general the conditions appear to be improving: the side streets are now almost all paved, begin to see the first fields of cereal, forage for the herds of the rare sheep and cows, and the city centers they are more numerous and vivid.
Those who will not see anymore are the reindeer: after? Last? Sighting? yesterday afternoon by now c?'s sure to say hello to them permanently.
In short, the third time in Finland has been a day in black and white: positive, because we easily completed on schedule (actually arriving early at the hotel we also have time to tidy up our things and also to rest a little?) negative because it has been all in all a boring day (the first one so far) and slipped away without special episodes.
Tomorrow we expect Helsinki and the ferry to Tallinn porterr there should be (hopefully) a sunny day, and certainly more animated today

Tallinn - from Juvaskyla (Finland) to Tallinn (Estonia), for a total of km. Nearly 90 280 + of the ferry.

Today we leave finally Finland, and I say finally because it is a country that on the whole I was disappointed, boring and definitely not suitable roads with the bike (straight, badly maintained and asphalt are not always perfect), especially when compared to those of neighboring Norway . Probably Finland would delight of off-road or enduro? Pure? who would find bread for their teeth in the myriad of narrow streets that grow at the edge of the main streets.

We start the morning with? Asphalt wet from a recent rain at night, but fortunately we do not take water. We make two stops before boarding the ferry in the port of Helsinki, which we reach after a port? Infinite set of traffic lights, of course, always red, almost through the center of town. L? Boarding is done on time just before 13 and the ferry leaves at 13.30 indeed even a few minutes d? Advance.
The sea is calm, there?'s No particular problem, except for a rather strong wind that forces us to stand on the deck outside to enjoy the sun d? August, but in sheltered places. During nearly two hours of navigation, c?'s Who eat (I had made ??a sandwich and eat in the hotel primae from that), who sleeps, who chats, etc. ..
We arrive in Tallinn at 15:30 and the first thing we're going to do the full motorcycles, gasoline costs much less here than in Norway (where the coast? Equivalent of about two Euros per liter) and Finland (1.60 euro). We pay the green 95 octane at about 1.35 euro per liter and I think also in the other Baltic republics, the situation going to be more or less the same, even if the? Estonia adopted the? Euro as its currency since 2011 already, mind Lithuania and Latvia still have their coins.
Distributor we understand finally realize that something has changed: we left Finland with its climate and gloomy 16-18 degrees and we are in Estonia with a summer sun and 25-28 degrees? someone says that today the second part of the trip, what to do in the heat, in the middle of traffic and in full European continent!
We arrived early at the hotel (the Radisson, where we are staying at the 20th floor), a structure that has at its disposal a wide range of amenities, including an indoor pool.
However, we decided to dedicate the next few hours, after a quick shower, the visit of the city of Tallinn, declared Patrimony of? Humanity from? UNESCO in 1997.
In fact, the old town is very nice and cozy, despite the numerous works of which are being carried out and covering the view of some of the facades of churches and buildings and causing the closure of several roads and sidewalks?. at least you understand that l have here? intention not to abandon themselves to the historic buildings!
Turn the historic center in length and breadth, we also enter into an Orthodox church where religious services are taking place and for me, that is the first time that I watch, it's very interesting.
Obviously we do not miss the souvenir shops where I buy classic sticker of the nation, to be stuck on the trunk of the bike, which now no longer has plenty of free space. They also give me a sticker Anna and David, thanks for the thought!
At seven o'clock we go to dinner with? House of ? that the name already suggests what it is: it is a feature that would look at the brewery in Monaco of Bavaria, with local food and brewed at home? Let's go on for a couple? Hours s and dishes (pork I take the ribbon, ie the pork chops grilled?. Giant portion that I can not finish it and share it with others).
After dinner, we move to the center? Last walk, the center of which in the meantime is a little? animated, but were still pretty quiet when we consider that we are talking about a nation's capital, a city which alone has more than 400 thousand inhabitants.
After the walk, no they decide to go back to the hotel, while others prefer to stand still for a couple of s in the company? ..

The next morning we woke up a bit for s of the previous night , or just bad, and we prepare ourselves, as we face the first leg of the journey back in a couple of stages, with nothing of interessantre, only bikes, motorcycles and still bike!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
