Adam and Neil rock Colombia

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd share this ride report on the HUBB as this site has been such a fantastic resource so please enjoy and if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me or simply post a reply.

First of all my name is Adam and recently I have been traveling in Chile, Peru and Bolivia. After living in Bolivia for a few months my buddy of 13 years (Neil) who had been in S.E. Asia and the U.S.A contacted me to see if I was keen on a Colombian adventure. Sure enough I could not refuse and this is our ride report.

After arranging dates and times etc I flew into Bogota - Colombia and waited for Neil, then once he had arrived we decided to line up some bikes, keeping in mind we had a budget. Thankfully Colombia has a fantastic company called 'AKT' who rebuild and rebadge chinese bikes at a bargain price.

We went to their dealership after finding the details on the web and purchased two 125cc cruisers. The bikes included helmets, vests with no. plate information, SOAT insurance, 12,000km guarantee and free services up to that 12,000kms. They cost us 2.800.000 pesos, approximately $1350 each and the lady who helped us was very kind, in fact she added me to Facebook today asking how we have been getting on.

The waiting time for the papers was 3-5 days so we ended up spending that time exploring Bogota during the day and partying at night.

One thing we did during the day was catch the cable car up the nearby mountain (can't remember the name) which overlooks Bogota:

Bogota is a very large city:

We met Sime66 from this site and started drinking, (or continued to do so, I can't remember?):

After 5 days of similar activites the very nice lady at AKT called us to say the bike papers are coming and to come into the shop. Sure enough the courier arrives with everything in hand and we ride back to our hostel and parked the bikes in the garage. We waited until Monday as to enjoy the weekend festivities then readied ourselves to hit the road.

Here's a taste of our rides:

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
