25,500km's - Victoria, BC, Canada to Yaviza, Panama And Back

Hi all,

I just arrived back home in Victoria, BC, Canada after my solo trip to Yaviza, Panama and back. For those who are interested I have a blog at www.scrabblebiker.com. There's also a possibility that I many be making a presentation at the HU meeting in Nakusp BC this summer. I'd also be happy to answer specific questions by private message if you're thinking of visiting any of those areas.

The Bike: 2007 BMW F650GS
Distance: 25,500km's
Time frame: 12 weeks (way too short)
Longest day: 785km's in northern Mexico
Typical day: 250 to 350km's
Countries visited: 9
Borders crossed: 16
Mechanical difficulties: brake light stuck on and nothing else
Pulled over by cops: 3 times (1 bogus, 1 legitimate, 1 stretching it a bit)
Tickets received: 0
Warnings received: 1 (Idaho - justified)
Bribes paid: 1 ($5 - Nicaragua - stretching it a bit)
Bribes refused to pay: 1 (Honduras - bogus)
Bad people encountered: 0
Nice, friendly, helpful people encountered: too many to count
Things I wished I had left at home: Camping and cooking gear
Favourite country: 9 way tie. They're all awesome in their own way
Highlights: Arriving in Yaviza; Coming home

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
