160,000km, 84 countries, and still going

Hi again guys,

I thought I post a quick update from my trip: Gelände/Straße Travels | A man, a GSA, and some scotch

I'm in Australia now after after leaving Canada in May 2009. So far I've hit North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, South/Central America, and NZ/OZ.

Things are going great and I'm looking forward to my last 9 months or so before putting my feet up on the couch and not getting up again. Ever.

the bike (2009 BMW R1200 GSA) is holding up fairly well and because of the great Canadian warranty I am currently getting some warranty work done in Brisbane (replacing the starter motor).

I'll be moving up to East Timor from OZ, doing the regular Asia stuff including India and Nepal before heading to Russia for the Magadan to Europe run going west (though, depending on the political scene I might ride west from India and then loop around to make the same run going East). After that I expect to got to Alaska for the ride back south and home to Edmonton.

Hope to see some of you on the road and with luck actual make another HU rally.

Fantastic ride, the last section from Alaska to Edmonton will be a nice finish.

Best of luck getting to Magadon safely and enjoy Nepal. I'll be riding throughout Europe in May if you are in the area.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to ending with a bit of adventure and some more areas that I haven't seen before instead of just shipping the bike back or retracing old steps.

Cool- I expect to be getting to East Timor around the end of Feb, so I'll keep you posted so we can chug.

All the best on the road folks!
David

Very impressive ride! Good luck for the rest of the trip.

I am envious, but I can't complain as I will follow you up through East Timor and SE Asia in 12 months time.

Also, I lived in Edmonton for a time and travelled all over North America from there including Alaska, the Yukon, North West Territories as well as all other directions. It brings back fond memories, especially the trip up the Dempster highway to Inuvik 2-up on a GSX1l00 on some very slippery dirt.

Cool- once I've been through feel free to drop me a line about any questions for your trip. When I get closer to going home I'll probably bug you about details on the north- first hand info always beats whatever you find in a guide book- especially when your on a bike!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
