Excellent big bike garage/shipper in New Delhi

If you require tyres or work to be carried out on any big bike then I can highly recommend Delhi's best kept big bike secret. Kaulson Racing Products are one of the largest importers of big bikes into India and I would be surprised if they cannot help you. They flew my BMW GS1150 from Delhi to Bangkok in January (I will post details on this) during our UK to Singapore ride. When I visited their workshop they had a large range of new and used being worked on. They were recommended to me and were faultless in their work.

Try emailing them, replies are usually prompt.

Their details are:

Vijay and Vinod Kaul
Kaulson Racing Products (KRP)
B-101 Nariana Industrial Area - Phase 1
New Delhi 110028

Tel; 011 25893-777/25893-777/3058-7777/6576-7777
Fax; 011 3058-7777
email; Kaulson@vsnl.com

Nick Foulerton

Fellow travellers: I used Kaulson Racing in 2009 on my first-ever 'round world GL1800 Goldwing. Work was good, complete 50,000k service, not cheap at $1000. I was OK with it, except they installed fraudulent (fake) and/or 15-yr old Vesrah brake pads with a shelf life of 5 yrs. Not once but twice (I complained and they claimed they replaced them with right ones. Not.) Also non-sintered pads that delaminated on me in Laos and almost caused me REAL trouble mid-nowhere. For details see our web site Wheezy Rider & Thao -- read "India Service" and "Laos" blogs for details.

Kaulsons were asked to explain the fake pads, twice, and they did not. Total silence. That's admission in any language.

Just be warned. Kaulsons or anywhere else you go. DO NOT ASSUME PARTS ARE NEW OR LEGIT.

I ordered all specific parts weeks ahead at Kaulsons, offered credit card as security. They did not order them. Just too lazy. No other excuse. I also ordered Metzeler tires from Europe and had them sent to Kaulson, they knew I was coming! But they ordered air filter from overseas only when I arrived, making me wait in hotel, and did not order brakes.

I spent about $2500 at Kaulsons, did not haggle – and got fake defective brake pads? On a round-world trip yet? When money is no issue?

They also crated & shipped the bike to Vietnam (it does not allow bikes in) because we could not get ride-thru Burma visa. But I was ignorant there too, I did insufficient research and read conflicting things on line. It was however a HUGE 3-week hassle and delay.

Just saying: (1) check every detail, right down to the parts installed and know the part numbers, look them up on line before paying. (2) Assume you are being cheated or serious life-threatening mistakes are being made on your bike. (3) Know customs rules better than the airlines or shipping brokers.

BEWARE OF FAKE OR BEYOND-SHELF-LIFE PARTS on the road.

To be ultra-sure, order your parts in advance, get them sent to a reliable safe address, and then find a dealer to install, check they install your legit parts.

BTW bike has been flawless aside from routine maintenance.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
