Lima, Peru

Myself and a Swiss guy both used a Honda place for basic stuff in Lima.

If you cant speak much Spanish, the owner of the bike shop next door will help. The shop stocks Pirelli MT 70's and 21's etc...

Incredible timing on your post!

I find myself 20 miles from Lima, and logged on to see if I could find some addresses of places to buy tires in Lima.

Thanks!!

...as the ezine picked this up I'll continue the story...
Thanks to Jeremy's info my bike is now temporarily stored there while I am out of Peru. I also purchased a hard to find rear tire for my F650...

BMW Dealership

there's a BMW car dealer in Lima, in theory they have the diagnostic computer and software for the newer BMW's, and because they are a dealer, they can order parts from Germany (probably 2 week timeframe). I don't think they know how to do diagnostics on a bike.

They don't really have MC mechanics. Luis did say there are more and more BMW bikes showing up needing service, and they are thinking of gearing up for it, so if more people stop by while in the neighborhood to "ask" about service (then go to another place), maybe they will get serious, find a mechanic who can do the diagnostics, and maybe actually handle repairs.

Carlos knows fuel injection

Carlos works on all kinds of bikes, seems to know what he's doing. A bit hard to find - just a small front on a side street, hardly any signage (Honda I think - look for bikes parked in front).

Lima

I guess there is no BMW dealer in Lima, then, or a guy who regularly works on F650´s. Any source for BMW parts.

Lima Repairs

Many people recommended Tatum Racing in Miraflores but he also has a reputation for being very expensive. I went to a guy in the Surco area of Lima called Bruno through the Lima Moto Club and got pretty good service.

Overpriced Tato

So I went to Tato "Racing" for an oil change and got him to change rear tire and brake pads while he was at it... Couldn´t get a quote out of him before he started working: big mistake! always insist on this point.
Ended up paying 300 soles, over USD110 for a few hours of his work, only USD5 less than the quote I had from the official Yamaha shop in Lima.
Lesson learnt.

After waiting almost a week, getting the wrong parts, being charged three ATM fees to get cash because of their faulty card reader, and then discovering that my camera was taken from my tank bag while in the shop, leaves me way less than enthusiastic about recommending the

Here is a good repair shop in Lima with reasonable prices:
