La Paz, Bolivia

Walter Nosiglia, Avenida Costanera 29, La Paz-Calacoto.
Big Honda dealer, but repairs all kind of bikes. Very friendly and helpful, absolutely correct. Very good service. He rents out Honda XR and other bikes and organizes tours as well.

I agree. Walter is great. When you get there, you'll recognise him: he's the one who looks like Chuck Norris http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

Really good and helpful!

Due to a destroyed rear tire i went to Nosiglia in June 2007. Walter was very helpful and organized very quickly a new tire for my BMW R 1100GS.

Really recommended! :)

... also has a shop in town

For those staying in La Paz centre:

Walter Nosiglia also has a store in the middle of La Paz, two block from Plaza Sucre: S 16 30.124' W 068 08.132' . Bought a rear tyre there.

For help mounting the tyres, there is a shop nearby at S 16 30.278' W 68 08.256

Great Help in La Paz

Hola HU Team,

I also had a great experience with the guys at Nosiglia Honda.

I took my KLR 650 in for a few issues I'd been carrying through Bolivia and they sorted me right out in about 24hrs. I went to the store in the centre first (Calle Riobamba) for a chat, then went to the larger store on Calle Costanera for the service.

Very professional, replacing rounded nuts/screws (thanks to my rubbish maintenance) as par-for-the-course during the service. Herman at Costanera speaks great English, as does the guy in Riobamaba (don't know his name).

Incidentally, I got a replacement starter-relay (exact part) from one of the Moto Repuestas around the corner from Riobamba. Seems to be your best bet for parts/tyres/oil etc in La Paz.

Nosiglia Honda, Motor Bike Repair, La Paz, Bolivia

20/08/2013

Just took my KLR 650 there after reading the many positive reports on Horizons Unlimited.

I guess the owners have changed. The new owner is Javier. I dealt with him on two occasions.

The first time was because I needed three things repaired.
1. Front fork seals
2. Tighten luggage rack mounts
3. Fix front light (I had assumed and filled him in that it was probably the fuse under the seat)

The second time was because I had left there paying a premium price, but I was forced to return because 2 of the 3 problems I had paid for to be fixed, were not fixed.
1. A fuse under the seat had been bodged with copper wire. The mechanic told me they had no fuses. (close to the shop there are a mountain of auto parts shops???)
2. The luggage rack bracing lost a bolt and half fell off because it was never tightened like I had requested and paid for.

I will make another post soon and show you the photos of the bodge.

Worst part is when I returned with the problems. Javier denied everything, even after the mechanic told me he had put the wire there as a quick test.

Javier lied right to my face, denied everything and afterwards forced his mechanic to lie to me too. The mechanic came back and told me he never put the wire there (he was under pressure from the boss)

I would recommend that nobody go there. On a long overland ride (which I told Javier I was on my way to Colombia first time when I went there.) An honest mechanic is one of the most important things you can have.

I ended up stuck at the border with Peru with no lights and the back bracing falling off. This is after paying a premium 'gringo' price to get the work done.

But don't worry just yet!

The police here ride KLR 650's. Tomorrow I will go out of my way to find their mechanic in central La Paz. I wouldn't want anybody to have to go through what I went through.

Do not trust Javier from Nosiglia Honda :nono: I will find you some better options!

Photos and more to come, Ash

Avoid KTM dealer in La Paz

It´s good to know about good shops and it´s even better to know which ones to avoid.
I took my 2012 990 Adv for a regular service and they screw up my display. Being the bike still in warranty period, they did nothing to fix it. Not even took responsability for the damage caused. Had to leave Bolivia and get it fix somewhere else.
If you´re heading north, try Lima, Peru. If heading south, Tucuman, Argentina.
Just an advise from my odd experience.
Cheers!

Hey guys, we had a European rider named Nicolas Holzem go missing near La Paz. His last verified point was when he crossed the border from Peru into Puerto Acosta, Bolivia and got an immigration stamp on June 16th 2019.

His sister Catherine started a search thread for him and she is flying to La Paz, Bolivia in a couple days (August 8th) to look for him:

https://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hu...iker-his-99089

If anyone in this thread can contact Walter and find out whether or not he saw Nicolas it would be a great help.

Thank you,
Geoff
