This has been recommended in the South American forum before, but ill put it here just to tidy things up for people.

It is run by Beto, he doesnt speak that much English but mimes very well!

He did some work for Jens and Kate a few months ago and is helping me rebuild my BMW after a tumble in the desert near here. He is also the mechanic for the new Yamaha shop on the sea front.

He knows some very clever people in the city aswell, including someone that can TIG weld aluminium and that has a lathe and machine shop.

He is also willing to travel as far as Arica, Antofagasta and Colchane, which is most of region I and II, if anyone needs help that far afield. He has a Jeep and bike trailers so transport is not a problem.

Just an FYI about Beto,

I had him put on a new back tire for me. It was a $300.00 overall price, which is overpriced but hey, I was in the Atacama so I went for it.

He put the back axle on backwards and when I went to reverse it, I found that the threads for the bolt of the back axle were completely stripped. When I emailed him he never responded and I think he just didn´t want to deal with it.

Anyway, if I were in the area again and needed anything I would look for someone else. On the other hand, he does have a trailor and will pick up your bike from wherever, for a high price I´m sure, but it would be better than carrying a bike through the Atacama! But there again, I´d look for someone else first.

That´s just my perspective, with a touch of grudge so take it for what it´s worth.

They are specialized in small dirtbike-stuff, 250's etc. and quads/ATV's.
Didn't have any oil, but the owner spent quite some time calling around for me. Seemed a nice guy to me.

Was at Sammotos today, which is near there. I didn't like it at all.... they had engine oil for 21 euro's per liter (oops...), and when I said that was way too expensive, they talked a lot of bullshit to talk me into it.

Hi

i had a good experience with senor Manuel Vivar, the owner of lquimoto. I had thought that my ignition coil broke, but he found out that it was the piece before (seen from the electric "flow"). Luckily i had this part, as it can only be replaced by an original BMW-part.
Anyway, he saved me from carrying my bike to santiago which would have cost a little fortune.
He worked very accurate and concentrated, cleaning every piece before putting it back into place.
