Lopez Motos, Valparaiso - Chile

I found Marco Lopez by pure luck. He has a small shop on the corner of Independencia and Juana Ross (coordinates: Lat -33.05033 Lon -71.60582). He speaks English which is hard to find here in South America.
His shop is the third generation, founded by his grandfather in 1948. They all have been racing motorcycles and even his 14 year old son is starting to join the family business. It was nice to see al the pictures from Marco and his father of the bike races. His workshop is small but very clean. He really seems to know what he's doing, absolutely recommended.
He does all brands as far as I know, he did some work on a BMW when I was there as well.
He knows his way around Valparaiso so if there is anything you need, he will know where to find it. I changed my chain, clutch and oil and was happy with the price and service. I also bought a set of tyres, secondhand ones for US$120/set.
If you want to contact Marco, he has a Facebook page: Lopez Motos
Let him know you found him on Horizons Unlimited, he helped me out big time so it would be nice if he knew I did something back.

Went there

I went there just a few days ago because of your entry Kevin. My motorcycle had issues after unloading it from the warehouse (came from Wladivostok). Marco organized me a guy to pick up the motorcycle with a minitruck (loud whistle down the road and the guy showed up). I had the sparepart with me since I knew it was broken. I also bought the special tool that was required to remove the flywheel but it is still stuck with the parcel of chili postal services. He called a guy who showed up 10 minutes later and had himself made a custom tool to remove the flywheel. Was done an hour later with no extra costs for me. Try to get that kind of service from a BMW Dealer in Europe :-)
Next day everything was done...motorcycle was working again. He did a fantastic job and it was way cheaper than I thought it will be. Thanks Marco and thank you Kevin for sharing this contact. He is located very close to the bus terminal which made it super easy for me since I was staying in Santiago.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
