Tyres ın Turkey / Iran
 

Currently ın Istanbul waıtıng for vısas. Tyres are mıtchelın t66 front and radıal back and good for another 1-2000 mıles on Transalp. Wıll ı be able to get these or sımılar ın Western Turkey / Iran. By the way they have done 6k and are stıll good 4 2000 more, much better wear than the avon dıstanzıa ı started wıth.

I'd say you were in the best place for tyres for the next god knows how many thousand miles. I didn't see any bike shops stocking anything but 125cc parts and accesories in Ankara (and I had a fairly good look round!). In Iran, locals are not allowed to ride over 250cc so again you're not going to get tyres for a bigger bike. I'd buy now and carry them with you till you need them.

Buy your tires in Istanbul! If you still have some life left on your tires, you can have the tire dealer in Istanbul ship them to you elsewhere in Turkey for very cheap. The shops in Ankara will have little in stock.

I would recommend contacting Yavuz in Istanbul at +05334964949 who can set you up with a decent set of tires. He got me some Metzler Tourance tires shipped to Trabzon in eastern Turkey where a local shop installed them.

Yavuz also speaks excellent english. Good luck!

While in Istanbul go to Sirkeci-Eminonu area and ask where the local motorcycle shops are. There is a small area where a number of local dealers even for yamahas and hondas are altogether. I usually go to "Yildiz Ticaret" there

There you can choose the tyres and reserve to be sent by courrier anytime and anywhere in Turkey. There are also other alternatives in that area.

As sayed here - better replace your tyres in Istanbul, i did on going. But there's a chance of getting them in Ankara as well, i got one second hand there on the way back home, that was relatively uncommon size, so they got some stock. That was that relatively well known (very small one indeed) 2 brothers motorcycle shop in Ankara. I'll try to find the contacts if i have them somewhere.

Forget the Iran! I was lucky to get out of there over 2000 kilometres riding on textile. Just pray Allah that you go OK till the Delhi, or the DHL and around 500% import tax + hassle is your bastid friend! :D

yeah ı know ım tryıng to be too cleaver here but ıve found a bıke shop ın ankara whıle lost yet agaın. Not only have they got tyres ın stock and wıll fıt them but they are reasonably prıced and Kaan speaks perfect englısh and they are brıllantly helpful. Yamaha dealers but work on all types and they are all bıkers

Met a guy (Neil) in Ladakh who bought a 21" front tire (local brand) for 11 USD in Iran and it looked ok. Why not try that one?

Hi I'm "Neil", I bought a Yazd tyre in Iran as said above for $11. It's a 3.00x21 but seems quite big for the size and sits ok on the front on my Tenere. I've been all over the Pakistan mountains, Kashmir/Ladahk on some rough tracks and it's great. Good in the mud and ok on the road, not to much wear either. I was told I could buy a rear 4.10 but I didn't see one. Bought it in Shiraz. Theres a web site www.yric.com and the tread pattern was the same as a GP1.

Having just bought two sets of tyres in Istanbul (about 2 weeks ago) I can very much recommend Gencmoto on Barbaros Bulvan 14. Tel +90 (0212) 274 27 27 or gencdemirel *AATT* gencmoto *DDOOTT* com. He's extremly helpful and did Turkey - Nepal and back a few years ago, so he's into the whole enduro thing. Got us two pairs of TKC80's in a day.

While we're at the recommendations, I should also mention Yucel Motor not far from Genc's shop. Very kind and skilled mechanics (one of them speaking german) , who did work on our bikes that bmw-service in denmark wouldn't be able to do for a third of the price. You could easily let them do a full service on your bike before riding it to India or wherever.
