BMW/KTM/More? Mechanic in Oaxaca, Mexico
 

My father and I are passing through Oaxaca, Mexico right now and we stumbled upon a motorcycle mechanic who can handle BMWs and KTMs and probably others, as well. They're located inside our hostal's parking garage at Av. Aldama 418. We're riding KLR650s and only needed to borrow an oil pan and buy some oil from them, but they were very friendly. The owner spoke very good English, and while we were there they had a BMW RS1150 and at KTM950 on the lifts being worked and a GS1200 parked outside. They also had some sort of BMW airhead that looked like a parts-bike.

Also, there is a bicycle touring office located in the same parking garage and the owner (a former motorcyclist) can set up accommodations for what looked like a beautiful two-day ride from Oaxaca down to Puerto Escobedo by rural dirt roads.

What do they carry in the way of supplies?

Did they stock any basic stuff for those bikes like Tires & tubes, Chain/sprockets, batteries, filters and good MC oil?

Well, we got to take a closer look at the shop a couple of days later when my Dad got bumped by a pickup on the highway and took a bit of a spill. Luckily, the only damage was the fork drain plug screw got ripped out. The mechanic on duty there when we came in got the bike fixed up in about 30 minutes for 200 pesos, fork oil included. They do stock good motorcycle oils, but they're a pretty small operation. They have a room with about five parts bikes (a BMW airhead, a large sports-bike of some sort and a couple of 400cc-ish dual-sports bikes) and I saw a couple of tubes and batteries on hand, but nothing else. They're very helpful, though, and I'm (nearly;) sure that they could track down parts if necessary.

I'll check them out....thanks Matt. It's a good ride over to Puerto Escondido. You go up into the mountains through San Jose Del Pacifico then drop down to the coast. There are two roads....I'm really surprised at least one is not paved by now....take the dirt....more fun and less traffic.

Watch out for those dozy drivers....accidents in Mexico can become complicated
in a hurry.
