AUS, Perth WA, NOT RECOMMENDED

Bike Tyre City & Bike Doctor North Perth.

Simply put the mechanic “Steve” does shoddy work and thinks he can bullshit clients. I took my Africa twin in for a timing chain replacement, tyre straitening, a tune-up and to have the brake pins drilled out and re-tapped.

Usually I do all my own work, I have rebuilt that bike from the ground up so I am no mechanical idiot. I had the shop do it as I have no place to work right now and I use the bike to get to work and back everyday. I simply don’t have the time (and was sick of working on it after the trip).

He did the first two things, although the front tyre straitening is badly done I could have done it that badly myself in no time flat. He replaced the timing chain, but now the bike has a bad oil leak. The tune-up he did not do well at all. The bike now vibrates badly at 5k rpm, and has less power, and choughs and splutters at 4k prm plus.

He claims that the stator is causing that, although I told him not to touch the choke as it sticks, he cut off the zip ties that held it from being used but denies it. I had to unstick the choke in the workshop floor and suddenly it was running “smooth” again and had the pleasure of paying $1350 for this “work”. I will bet anyone he balanced the carbs with a stuck choke (it is not a fair bet, I have done this myself on this bike and the symptoms were identical). After unsticking choke and getting the bike running MY SELF IN THEIR SHOP FLOOR, he still insisted that it was not the choke but the stator (which they “never touched” so it cant be their fault), the charge monitor never showed any fluctuation in power.

I must point out that I supplied all the parts so that cost is all labour (about 6 hours = 225 per hour) they also charged me for coolant but I can see no evidence of it being changed and it was not low, and 2 bucks or a 10mm hose clamp (normal cost 0.55C) basically they saw a beat up bike and though I was an idiot not some one who has ridden it though Africa and Asia and knows bikes.

Oh and he did not even try to do the brake retaining pin drill out/retap. Said it is “not possible”.. funny I did it in Thailand with hand tools on the rear..hmmmmm no not impossible just a impossible to do a half ass job, even though they have a full machine shop.

Bottom line STAY WAY---SHONKY and RIP OFF ARTISTS, the worst part is the owner claims to be a traveler. Hardly, he may travel but he is no traveler. I can not think of anything else to do but warn every one I can of these guy. I am sure others have had good experience with them but mine was very bad and I don’t forgive or forget.

That's a shame... I'd heard a phrase once that went something along the lines of "travel broadens the mind..."

Maybe I misheard...

Maybe I misheard..
