Friendly BMW repair shop
I'd like to point out "Auto Umhlanga" just north of Durban in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa, as a very useful address for BMW motorcycle repairs. They made a great effort to get my bike repaired immediately, although they were booked out completely for at least a week.
Before that I had contacted the BMW workshop in Pinetown, about 20 k's west of Durban. They offered an appointment in one weeks time. When I asked for an earlier date, because I was just bypassing Durban, they suggested I should drive to Johannesburg or Bethlehem, both a few 100 kms away :-( Hans

The guys at the BMW shop in Pretoria are very cool too. I forget the service managers name, but he's very helpful and they are good to travelers.

There is a guy near me who is excellent.. He restores ex gov ( mostly police bikes) when he is not doing repairs. They would be very good for anyone looking for a sorted bike in near new condition. he only does bmw's tho.
