which is the best all-rounder? helmet cam / bar-mounted cam or hand-held?

I took both, but have more footage from the helmet cam. Just never used the hand-held that often as I preferred taking still photos instead of vid. when off the bike.

We use the GoPro on our helmets, & a 7D for film & stills.:thumbup1: Mounting a camera on a bar leads to a lot more vibration,:nono: its a lot smoother when attached to you helmet,:thumbup1: however if you do want to mount it to a bar a time lapse is the best option.:smartass:

Hi Paul - yup, back in the working world for a while before we want to get away to Asia for another long trip. Bikes arrived 2 months later and were in good order and are riding & camping gear still there. I worried for no reason.

I agree with the GoPro on the Helmet. It does a pretty good job bar mounted, but helment is best. Plus, on the helmet, you can control the direction of filming by moving your head. Only drawback to the GoPro is the controls. Currently they are only available on the camera itself. Which means you have to reach up and turn it on and off while your riding with your gloves on. Not that easy to do while riding. But, in March, they are supposed to come out with a remote control, which I will mount on the handle bars. It is wireless, which should be great. I would recommend this option.

Trouble with the Go-Pro is the cmos shutter gives you the dreaded jellow effect and the wide angle that bends everything.
To get the best footage, use a handheld with a bar mounted Sony bullet cam.

You then get the far superior CCD shutter of the bullet cam and if you go for the 4.3 lense there is no/little curvature like the ultra-wide go-pro.
Pump this into a handycam via an AV in and you get the self-stabilising software of the camera kicking in so little or no vibration. Not all handycams have an AV IN

I hate helmet cam footage from a bike, it always looks shite. Put the bcam on some kind of pivotable mount you can reach and use all the angles:thumbup1:

I would like to post a video somewhere to share it, sadly it is 1.4 GB and I cannot find a host. Anyone got any ideas? Just want to park it for a couple of weeks and be able to give out the url of the file to a small number of friends.
