Vibration damage

Hi all,

During my last trip the vibrations caused my Minolta7000 to generate some problems. Mainly this caused bad lighting on the picture. (You're in the middle of the desert, and your pictures get underexposed. That sort of stuff). This was caused by the vibration damage and (subsequent) corrosion on the batteries and the spring-contacts to thr batteries and camera. After increasing the tension of the springs and cleaning them thourougly the problem disappeared.

My main question is how to keep this damage from happening?
Ik kept the camera in a soft LowePro carrying bag inside my tankbag.

Thanks, Roger

Well, you can put more foam around it, but that will take up valuable space.

I think the corrosion is caused by the vibration causing a gap at the battery contact and sparking. The sparking causes oxidation. Try dialectic grease ont the contact points to keep air out so no oxidaion. At least, this is the case with GPS batteries.

Hmm, haven't thought of that. Sounds reasonable (as a former electronics engineer). We'll give it a try next year!
