mini tripod

I've been all the way back to 2007 and can't find a post on tripods!
All I'm looking for is a small good quality tripod, for a compact camera, fit in the plam of your hand size and light weight.
Most of our trip photos are of us by ourselves because whenever we try to take a picture of us together by proping the camera on a wall or against a rock/tree etc it never works :(
Recommendations gratefully received.

Cheers
Pete

I've used this Gorillapod for 3 years and i'm quite happy with it. You can place, hang, clamp, etc it to all places. Very good for traveling.

Pete

There are (at least) two GorillPod variations.

There's the (a) 'original' - approx 15 cm long; and (b) the SLR version, which is about 25 cm in length.

Even though I don't use a sophisticated and weighty SLR camera, I still nevertheless went for the lengthier, and more robust (& versatile) 25 cm version. Glad I did.

Bought mine from Amazon.co.uk btw.

Ordered from Amazon, just checked my order and it's the 15cm but it was only £11 including p&p so no biggie if I need the 25cm model.

I can thoroughly recommend the Velbon Luxi range but for travel change the head.

Velbon - LUXi L

Its small light and actually really good. Its not perfect, but it is very very good and more versatile than anything else I have come across

NB - FOR TRAVEL where weight and size is a premium. If you have the space and can carry the weight heft something much bigger.

Alternatively there are a variety of bean bags with a screw thread attached which are remarkably useful.
THE pod - Tripod Alternative
I have one, and when i went travelling I took out the recycling plastic beans and added coffee beans, sand - whatever you find wherever you find it when you get there.
This is really useful when you prop it against something to create added stability out of anything eg walls rocks, window sills bike petrol Tanks - instrument clusters.

I had a Cullmann Digi-pod Short and it was very practical and cheap. I could fit it in my pocket and it could be extended to 63 cm. Although, sometimes I wanted to shoot a photo from a higher position. I had a Canon G6, a quite heavy compact camera. This tripod could hardly carry my camera. It was tricky to keep it stable in portrait orientation. I think it cannot work well with an SLR.

This time I am thinking to use the Cullmann Pronto De Luxe micropod. This is almost the same size, but it can be extended to 113 cm and it can carry a heavier camera.

Hi Guys n Gals,

when travelling light, I use a Hama Traveller Mini Pro.

It weighs in at 720g, carries a load of 10kg and is 40cm long (when closed).

Take a look at,

By the way, it cost the princely sum of £15.00!

Tripod heads

Quick note and update.

Add neoprene foam tubes to the tripod legs, makes them so much more comfortable, to carry and on the hands in the cold.

I also wanted to share the Techtrek magmount ball head.
Absolutely awesome piece of kit. Light weight, extraordinarily quick to disassemble and so useful. just buy extra star heads
