looking for an insurance company that will insure cam gear on my bike?

Hey hey fellow hubb'ers

i have been calling around lots of insurance companies today in the UK trying to find someone who will give me cover for about £2500 (well actually only cost me £1,000, but replacement value is £2500) worth of photo kit. Every insurer i've called won't insure the kit when it is on the bike, in the panniers, only if it is on 'me'.

does anyone know of a nice insurance company (do they exist???) that will insure my kit whilst it is on the bike. i don't fancy carrying everything with me whenever i get off the bike to go take a wee... etc etc... (although i do suspect i probably will anyway around most of south america...)

cheers guys, look forward to the hubb working its magic...

best

nick

You can buy cheap cameras in just about any junk shop for less than any insurance. It is a bad idea to carry lots of valuable equipment about, especially if you going to (scuse the pun) 'flash ' it about.

Try a dedicated photo insurance

Hi,

Try getting an insurance that specialises in photographic gear. You'll find addresses in your country's photo magazines – i.e. for the UK, the BJP magazine or Amateur Photographer. Or ask in a local camera shop that specialises in pro gear (i.e. Calumet or Flash Centre).

I've got my insurance in Germany (my home country). It costs me 3% of the camera value each year, and it insures everything at any time, even in my car. (Between 0800 and 2200 that is – though, if I can prove I had an assignment where the gear had to be in the car overnight, i.e. a festival over the weekend, it is insured overnight. In case of theft, I'd have to get a witness to verify I was using my gear for a commission on that location)

Cheers

Bjorn
