Good place for lenses
Hi guys!
Just a question...we plan to buy a new lens. Anyone knows where is the cheapest place to get tech stuf? Singapor Tokyo or KL?? Thanks for your help !!! Greetings from Perth Werner+Claudia |
I should be able to help you out better as I looked at lenses in all these places during recent travels…but I’ve forgotten the prices!
Comparing prices to the UK I can’t remember seeing *significant* differences in prices in Singapore (never looked so much) and KL but maybe I just wasn’t looking in the right places. As for Tokyo – I am sure they were a bit cheaper than the UK and the definitely had a far greater selection of lenses available off the shelf. I went to a great camera store by Shinjuku station – Yodabashi. I only bought a cheap lense there (Canon 50m 1.8 – was 45 UK Pounds or less instead of up to 70 in the UK), but be warned if you are in the market for Camera bits this store could be fatal to your wallet!!!! You may well be tempted to buy things you never even knew you needed / existed ;-> Google yodobashi and there’s loads of info, unfortunately their website is in Japanese. |
Hey,
I went to a Yodabashi in Sapporo, it was great. Japan is good for getting stuff that has been out a couple of years and has been superceded as the Japanese just love their new stuff! I got a Nikon D2H body for £1500 at a time it was selling for £2400 or so in the UK. Think it was just before the D2X came out. Matt :) |
PS- Anyone want to buy a Nikon D2H! :)

Hi guys!
Thanks for reply! Yeah...Nikon iss our problem too. Carrying a F5 around the world.. Cheap stuff isn't the solution. We broke our 28-300 (was a Tamron) allready in Guinea. Since that time we miss the 300mm... It's a math's question..take a flight from Perth to Tokyo + expensive lens still cheaper than 7500 OZ $ ???????? Is the Nikon stuff in Japan that less expensive?? greetings from rainy Perth Werner+Claudia |
