charging!
 

It might seem a silly question to you guys with loads of experience, but if you are on the road for quite a while, how do you go about charging up your digital camera battery? I have a KONICA that plugs into a base unit. Do you carry that with you and just charge it once a week, or whenever you stop off in a motel/hotel where there is a power source? Thanks for your help!

Yes, depending on how many pictures you are taking you only need to recharge periodically when staying at a hotel/campsite. The charge usually lasts quite a long time. Depends on where you are going, but a universal plug adapter helps out. Cheers:)

Bring charger and whatever adapter is needed. Charge whenever within reach of an electrical outlet; ferries, campgrounds, airports, motels, friends, etc. I've even asked at bars and restaurants on occasion.

I've also learned not to buy cameras with proprietary batteries. This way, I can carry a couple of extra charged AA batteries for use in my camera, headlamp, etc. The cellphone still needs its own charger (although I've also got an extra battery for it).

Proprietary batts cost a lot: I found out when I looked for a replacement batt after a few years of re-charging a Konica.
I now use AAs in a Canon, rechargeable or alkaline, whatever is convenient.

i know this is a bit overkill and too heavy for solo's, but for extreme cold weather useage on an outfit, I have a 12v switched/fused socket in the chair, and connect this to an insulated ammobox, containing all the battery chargers,ipod, lighting etc for use in the tent, together with a 7AH gell cell.
Charge it when running, and hey presto, enough 12v power in the tent for the long scandanavian winter nights, cos li-ion and nicads die quickly at -20c.
The chargers/cameras/ipod/ valuables are kept safe if the weather is lousy, and boy did it rain this january!!!!
