which is the best lens to take for a Canon EOS 50d

I'm looking at replacing the basic lens that I have on my 50d (it origionally came with a 350d)

Is there a better lens for travel as it appears to cover most of whats required ? Is it worth getting a more expensive lens with a similar range ?

Canon 18-200 Lens

Hi Iain
I use a Canon 18-200 lens on my 60D gives good all round use, its not cheap at about £500, (check e.bay for used). but its worth it, there is nothing worse than missing that one great shot when your on the road. Skip

Hi,

Allthough I use a Nikon D300s and/or Fuji S5-Pro instead of a Canon, the situation is the same.
I always use a 18-200mm zoomlens when I'm traveling on my bike.
Most of the time I also carry a 50mm f1.8 for special low light situations but 99% of my travel pictures are made with the 18-200.

Lens

Sigma have a 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 lens that is pretty good. If you get a Kenko 1.4 converter as an option for those distance shots you should be set to rocknroll !
