MZ Baghira two up? and looking for travel accessories?
Hi Livotlout and everyone,

I am new to the HUBB, and i am finding it very informative thanks to our hosts Susan and Grant and all travelers out there. I have owned my MUZ Baghira for about 3 years now and can say that it is a really sturdy bike, i have not done any long trips except to Itlay, where it did pretty good. One thing i have found difficult with my MUZ is finding accessories. anyone has got any good sites please? I would also like to hear from anyone who has travelled long distances two up with a same bike? cause i am considering changing bike maybe to a Honda Africa Twin to travel two up due to the heavier load.

Yes, it is a good bike for overlanding, a bit tall, uncomfortable seat(will have to 'have a second go at it'!), could be lighter, but still not a bad weight in comparison to some. You asked if I had any difficulties, :-
Sidestand welded four times, possibly due to being strapped down many times on ferries, planes and in containers.
White Power rear shock leaked at 42,000 miles - repaired in Buenos Aires.
One back wheel bearing failed at 43,000 miles.
Oil consumption worsened - rebore and new valve guide rubbers sorted this upon return to UK this year.
Had to renew rear caliper this year.
Spares :- Pattern sprockets were available in South America, but Yamaha dealers in USA were less than helpful on this issue!
Oil filters available everywhere.
Rear pads available in South America, but no front pads.
Good fuel consumption - up to 70 mpg.

My MZ
Hi All, I have had my MZ 6 years now. Added a Day Long Seat, Tour Tank, Hand Gaurds and after I get the suspension dialed it is great. The seat was the key. I have the HR model and it is just right. I have a 21 inch front wheel in the garage to be added soon. This my first post so I hope my pic uploads. Cheers from Tucson! Bill

Need to find a seat and tank
Hi everyone. I've really enjoyed reading about all the trips people take and the adventures people have, but now I need some help myself.
I've taken a few 1000-1500 mile trips on my 2001 MZ Baghira, and I want to do something longer. Problem is, my tank and seat are stock, and that gets annoying. I know of plenty of places that can make my seat better, but I'm having trouble finding a larger tank. Can someone help me out here?

I see that Alec's bike has a custom aluminum tank. How much did it cost to get that made, or did you make it yourself?

I also see that some people have listed a "tour tank" as a modification they've made to their Baghira. What size did you get, and how do you like it? Does it limit the luggage you are able to carry?

What kind of hand-guards are you folks using? I haven't found any that I like yet, or any that fit particularly well.

Hi All,
Like Black Panther I'm looking for a larger tank for my Mastiff, also I understand it is possible to fit baghira wheels? I have a Mastiff not a baghira because I have short legs btw
Can't be that bad mind you as I've had it for five years now and put 35K miles on it
Finally... Livotlout, did you get the panniers from the same place as the tank or are they off the shelf? Any pics of how they're mounted?

as far as i know there are a lot of interchangeable parts, inc wheels. when my mate bought his black panther a few years ago he got a pair of offroad wheels in the deal so he could swap between enduro/supermoto easily.
he commutes on his in all weathers and after 35K miles nothings failed or fallen off.

Apparently the KTM LC4 Adventure Tank fit's with some fumbling and (maybe) repositioning of the cooler. If you can read german, there's more info out there: MZ-Baghira - Umbau

There's also luggage racks available at Startseite (off-the-also in german).

I really like the Baghira, but I think that the small tank is really an issue for traveling. 150km until you hit reserve is a bit on the ridiculous side

Otherwise it would be my favourite adventure bike!

Still hunting for a KTM tank for mine but slowly coming to the conclusion that I may just have to have an auxiliary tank made
Also wondering what I can do about the (dismal) headlamps... I'm not convinced that the alternator is up to powering auxiliary lights...?
