Calling all Terrano owners

I just picked up my next overlander vehicle - a 93 3ltr v6 terrano.

Just a couple of questions:

1. How to engage 4wd Low ratios? Its an auto, and so far I drop it into park, knock it back into 4wd High, roll forward, wait for the auto hubs to click into place. Park up and then drive off. But for the love of god, how to get it into Low? It just doesn't want to go!

2. Any recommended safari racks given there are no rack mounts on the roof? I'm after the crate style, rather than a thule bar type. Any ideas?

Cheers,
Chris

silly question (sorry!doh ( I have a manual Hilux!)
You've found the 4H - but what makes you think has the facility of low gears? Does it not have a 4L mark? reading the spec (link below) seems it may not?

Well the gear stick says 2H -> N -> 4H -> 4L (going top to bottom), so hence think its got 4L. Nissan forums also suggest that it has the 4L option.

One of my mates thinks theres some 'special' method, but as to what..*meh* he dont know...

Some 4WDs have a "around the corner" shift to get to low. You have to go sideways once you get to 4H and then shift the lever forward again. It could also be a problem in the transfer case......

Yea thats a thought. I'd be surprised if it were a mechanical issue as it only got WOF'd last week and had a thorough going over in preparation for my overland trip when the weather gets a little better (fancy a bit of fishing? I do!)

I'll give the stick a wiggle and see what I can come up with. doh

Hi Chris,

Have you tried shifting to 4L with the autobox in Neutral ? you have to do this with all autos that I know of.....

If its being awkward make sure everything is thoroughly warmed up - and try again, if its still not working then part of the linkage may be siezed/corroded
