Where to buy a rear shock in Russia?????

Hi, we are in Yakutks right now, and our rear shock just has broken, we need a new one (better not the original) for our F800GS. And we are looking for a place to buy it, but we cant find it. We need a little help.....

You might try contacting Bolot, a moto-friendly blogger in Yakutsk. I haven't met him but have traded e-mails, and he has been friendly and helpful, and he knows the bikers there. I don't want to post his personal data on the forum, I will send you a pm with his contact info.

There is also a BMW dealer in Krasnoyarsk, and while I think the chances of them having a rear shock are very remote, I've incuded the address and phone number below, you will probably need a Russian to call for you.
Russian for shock absorber is "amortizator".

BMW Krasnoyarsk:

Goodluck!

Hi there,

yes, maybe Krasnoyarsk, but maybe Moscow ... it will take some time to buy a new one, if you can find it.

I would try to get it repaired at the same time finding a new one, Russians are fantastic mechanics, ask the biker contact motoreiter gave you for the best mechanic for this kind of job.

Good luck

mika

Thanks, we sent our ohlins to Russian importer to check it and maybe get a new one under warranty.
Otherway Colebatch is helping us a lot to get a new one from Europe, I don't want the original one from BMW is too soft for us.
Now is only time what we need.

Thanks a lot Colebatch, again.

RUS Customs could be a delay and cost.
I guess saved time is more important than saved cost.

I would recommend the unit's paint is scratched a bit, smeared in old dirty oil and fingerprints and it is shipped as a used part.

Alternatively I have a friend coming from London to Moscow at the end of next week. Subject to size/weight, she could possibly include it in her luggage as personal stuff and I forward it from here.

Or get one made up 'From Russia With Love' in-country by a friendly engineering firm, like Tony did!!

colebatch 3 Jun 2011 15:52

Fernando, I saw the Hyperpro guys this morning ... its been shipped to you. On the way.

motoreiter 3 Jun 2011 20:27

Please let us know when you get the shock, curious to see how long it takes to get through Russian customs, etc.

fernan_ci 8 Jun 2011 08:55

We don't have the suspension still
but here we go,
thanks a lot to Colebatch for helping us to get new suspension.
thanks to hyperpro, they did it very fast.
but WTF happens with DHL??????
I can understand that the box was almost 3 days in customs in Amsterdam, and I think that somebody was thinking how to send it to Yakutsk.
Russian customs clearance took only 1 day (in Vladivostok) and I paid 1.650 rbl included taxes and DHL service, so very fast and cheap because I told them that the suspension is for a foreing bike to repair it and come back home, BUT!!!!!!!
who in DHL sent the box from Rotterdam to Moscow through Barhein-South Korea-Vladivostok (16 days trip) ahh!!!!
Moscow has direct cargo flights with all big cities daily, but from Vladivostok to Yakutsk there is one per week (was on tuesday) and next week there is not because of holydays, so the box went to Moscow, but DHL MUST KNOW this.

If I could choose, I will not work anymore with DHL and their fuc.... service. I could get the suspension in 6-7 days (if the could sen it straight to Moscow from Germany or Amsterdam) and now we're still waiting (4-5 days more, because here are hollydays next week).
You can take a look to the shipping track
DHL | Tracking | English

Somebody knows where can I make a claim to DHL????

colebatch 23 Jun 2011 13:45

Hey Fernando ... you got it today yes?

Yes, already installed. All perfect, maybe a little soft, I'll try it, but I think I need a little more preload, but all good, thanks a lot again.
Just disapointed with DHL shipping service and customer service, if you take a look to the online tracking you'll see why.
Tomorrow morning we go out of Yakutsk.bier

All times are GMT +1. The time now is 05:44.
