Water and fuel
 

Hi all,

Im travelling through the stans soon in a 4x4 which ive fitted with a 100litre water tank. Wondering if its easy to get water on a hose in these places.... hopefully wont be filling to much!

Also, does anyone know if there is much fuel in between Zhezkazgan and Zhairem/Zhayrem in Kazakhstan? We are heading straight from Shymkent to Lake Tenghiz through the wilderness and may need fuel when we hit the main road between these settlements. Hope that makes sense

Yes there is fuel at Kyzylzhar, near Zhayrem. There is also fuel at Barshin, between Kyzylzhar and Lake Tenghiz.

Additionally, Zhayrem and Zhezkazgan also obviously have fuel.

I should have added im after diesel not petrol. Want to assume that wheres there is one there is both, but assuming things is sometimes rather stupid....

Yes, the default setting for fuel stations in that part of the world is that they will have 3 grades of fuel ... diesel, low octane petrol (76/80) and regular octane petrol (92/95). Sometimes they run out of one type of another, but its normal that there will be a choice of 3 types of fuel mentioned above. Occasionally there are only two types .... then its usually diesel (usually labelled DT), and low octane petrol.

I would say that diesel quality only matters on newer engines. Mines a 1993 and i believe sulphar levels were normal then, not the new low sulphar stuff so it may do it good having sulphar. I would think that modern engines are more fussy - but i wouldnt be taking on of them far anyway, not tolerant enough of bad fuels. Stick to my 200tdi anyday!!!

Says KZ planned to move to sulphur 10ppm Diesel in 2010 ... which think is Euro 5? But I wouldnt be surprised if there was still a lot of 2000 ppm and 350 ppm out there
