Vladivostok to Fushiki Ferry and repairs in Toyama/Fushiki
 

Hello,

We are currently booked onto the next ferry RUS (and have been told its the last this year) for this Sunday. However our bikes are in a dismal state. I am interested to know if anyone knows of some tyre places in Toyama that stock sizes for BMW bikes. I've been trying to call around the yellow pages with little to no luck.. primarily because I don't speak Japanese.

Any Assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. We need two tyres for an R1200GS adv, sprocket and chain set for an F650GS and a new rear inner tube for the F650GS Dakar.

there is a 21inch Metzeler Sahara enduro tyre (part used) in Vladivostock at the Mix Mix Hostel. I left it there a couple of weeks ago and I don't think any other riders have been through since then.

Also maybe get in touch with the Iron Tigers- they said they had a lot of tyres.

The ferry is making its final run... again.
I think I have been told "this week is the last run" three times already this autumn.

As for tires, etc....
Try the BMW dealer in Toyama (Horita Auto Park)
They can probably get you what you need.
About an hour drive from the port.

It may not be the quickest route, but probably easiest to find.

You should look for a BMW dealer and go there personally, but if you just have to do some small repair i think you shuld go to a normal mechanic, Japnanese perople are really good in motorbike stuff...

Thanks for the information. We have gone to the dealership. It seems that the 2004 F650GS was never imported into japan or that Japanese BMW does not stock parts. They have been very helpful and found some aftermarket parts at very reasonable prices including shipping. Their Tire/Tyre price are unbelievably expensive working out to be around £580.00 for a pair of tyres. I've managed to contact some other BMW riders (by stopping them on the road) and have a few names of places where we can now look. If they turn out to be good ill update this link with the locations incase other riders have the same situation that we are in..

Hmm. I'm pretty sure it was imported here. However, dealers may not stock the parts. Often they have to order from BMW Japan in Tokyo. If not in stock there, BMW Japan orders from Germany.
I should have mentioned that BMW dealers aren't the best place for tires. I usually mail order what I need and mount them myself. Toyama isn't really the best place to be looking for tires and parts. Tokyo, Osaka or other cities with a year-round riding season have a better selection. Toyama gets substantial snowfall, thus had fewer motorcycles.

If you are still in Japan on the weekend of the 21st, there is a travelers' meeting in Shizuoka prefecture.
