Visa registration on reentry to Russia

I've been in Russia for a month from USA.I have a 3 year multi entry visa. I went to Mongolia for 4 days. When I returned yesterday I got another migration card. Do I need to reregister my visa?

Also, I only showed 7 days as duration of stay.I thought my bike would be fixed and I would return to Mongolia the next day. What options do I have if my bike is not repaired in time? Do I need to return to the border, exit, and return?

Yes you need to re-register technically, tho in reality registration is not a big deal in Russia these days. You are not registering your visa. You are registering you. As soon as you leave the country, any previous registration is cancelled.

The dates on your immigration card dont mean too much. You have a visa that allows you to stay 90 days at a time (I assume). You should just put a 3 month forward date on your immigration cards when you fill them out.

Personally, I wouldnt worry about either. But "technically", you should get re-registered within 7 days.

Thanks again Saint Walter. My mechanic/landlord registered me last time. I am supposed to register within 3 days of entry-1 day if staying at a hotel. If I go back to Mongolia within 3 days, am I still required to register?
I did read online info. It just isn't clear to me. The possibility of fines seemed rather clear though.

doogle, I'm not completely sure about your visa situation, but when family came to visit last summer they had 7 working days to register. I don't think it will be the end of the world if you don't, but I suggest that you try to do so if possible--maybe a night or two in a hotel?

Agree with Walter on the dates on the migration card; while I'm not sure if I've ever left later than the stated date (I usually insert a date far in the future), I've never heard of anyone having a problem because of this.

If you want a second (third?) opinion, there's a Russian expat forum called expat.ru which has a subforum on visa issues, if there is not an existing thread on the topic (and there probably is) then you should be able to get an answer quickly if you ask.

That info is out of date. I believe it is now 7 working days to register.

Yes it is 7 working days now.

Well then, I still have a chance at being back in Mongolia by then.
