Hi there
We're currently in Uzbek and was wondering if anyone has had any issues with visa registration here. We've (hotle we stayed at) registered us when we arrived, but we've been camping the rest of the time. Is it the same as in Russia where you only need to register once, or do you have to register more often. Has anyone had any issues at the borders when they left? We might stay in hotles, etc for another 1 or 2 nights to have another visa registration. Thanks |

In theory you need a paper & stamp for every night you're there .. usually you can get the next hotel to include the camping days in their registration.

was in Uzbekistan at the end of September and collected every pieces of papers with hotel stamps. And? Nobody on the border wanted to see that. Passed border between Nukus and Beyneu. I gave two passports and asked for stamp. They asked me where is second person? Answered: he is watching on a bike and car. Ok no problem I got stamps and thats it ! No question abt f... registration or so...
In Russia you dont have to register !! Its new regulation from 1 Jan 2008. Im sure, was on a bike two times this year in Russia. Didnt register, and had no problem on border

This summer I was asked about hotel slips when exiting and fortunately I had them (some nights I camped). A few persons just want to have a reason to extract some "fine" from you. Also I had problem with corruption when entering Uzbekistan -- had to wait about 4 hours because there was a "problem" with my passport. I was basically the only one crossing border and they just wanted to push me to pay $$$. To me it looked like Uzbekistan was most corrupt of the stans.

Update
Just to give you all an update.
We had 3 registration slips. this was for 7 days out of our total stay of 17 days in Uzbek. We crossed the western border from Nukus to Beney. We took all the slips out of our passports before we got to the border. NO ONE askesd for anything about registration, so we're thinking it's just another way for tourists to spend their money there. It might be different at other borders or the airport, but that was our experience. this was on 2 Dec 08. Cheers |
