Yakutsk/Bakaldyn Cultural-Ethnographic Complex

Does anybody know the GPS-coordinates of this: Bakaldyn Cultural-Ethnographic Complex. It has to be around 45km north or west of Yakutsk.

I can only find a lot of touristcompanies going there but not the exact place nor the way to get there.

If you are chasing those elusive reindeer herders, you may be interested in the reply I received this morning from 'Ask Yakutia'-

"Hi,
Bakaldyn doesn't work now. Herders left that place.
Best,
Bolot."

Interesting National Geographic article here and another which indicates a yearly event : "A "Mikuole" festival is traditionally observed by Ewenki herdsmen in May every year"-

Or are you looking for the Evenks? Fascinating whichever way.

Thanks for the answers. The reindeer herders near Archangelsk we will look for next year, 2015 we plan a trip to Archangelsk and Murmansk again.

The answer of Bolot: Bakaldyn doesn't work now. Herders left that place.

I beleave it but normally they will be back in summer I think. Half a year ago I send a question to Bolot via his site as I did 2 weeks ago. My experience is that he doen't answer at all so far. A friend tried once with a Russian yandex.ru account but no difference.

I was interested in this subject so I did some research...
Bolot answered me within 2 days ( 3 days ago) and I shared his answer with you.
Herders have now mostly moved East. see the links I sent you above.

Take a gps with you and get lost ( said nicely!)
Real adventure is about turning it on and finding the way to the next point

p.s Perhaps analyse the Soviet Military maps (or any other topography maps) for terrain clues

I went there once, 4 years ago, but dont have the GPS co-ords, sorry. I do remember it was a decent road there.









I was there during a festival ... but the impression I got was that its pretty boring in itself ... cause basically no people there. From my understanding it is or was a place where the indigenous peoples of the region (non Russians and non Yakuts) can hold their cultural events. If there is a festival on for one of the many ethnicities, then it certainly gets a lot more interesting ...

Good morning everybody,

The Lengra village I allready know and its exact location is: N56 13.413 E124 50.804 Which is about 60 km south of Neryungri and 835 km southwest of Yakutsk. Bakaldyn is about 45 east of Yakutsk on the banks of the Kengkeme river. This is as far as I found out myself.

As Colebatch mentioned the road to get there is a good road, in fact it is located at km 46 on the Vilyuisky Trakt Yakutsk-Myrny. This last info I got from Bolot yesterday:



Forgot to say. Every July (dates varies) the Evenk community celebrates its national holiday (Evenks' New Year) in Bakaldyn.

I've been to Bakaldyn many times, but never thought to pin the GPS coordinates. Sorry.




It's located at 46 km on Vilyusky Trakt. It is the A-331 federal road that goes east off Yakutsk.




Right now on the south side of the road, where the complex was located, nothing is left after the ethnographic complex. But a good news is the Evenk community registered the land after its community just on the opposite side. Currently, it's pure land, without any constructions and reindeer.
