UB to Magadan and back

Hi,

For reasons over which I have little (um, no) control I'll have a maximum of 5 weeks to ride from UB to Magadan. And back.

The real issue is the Russian Visa - 30 days or a Biz Visa that would provide 90 days.

Is Magadan via the "boring" Federal Hwy and then back via the BAM (Tynda to Baikal) and then back to UB doable in 30 days ?

It's understood that overstaying in Russia is a VERY bad idea.

Thanks in advance,

Kurt

Hi

just yesterday I saw this report Raid Over Russia - FINISHED! (Vienna to Magadan)
So it seems that people can go quite long in short time in this regions on a motorbike.
But it is everyone's choice what he likes and what makes sense to him + everyone should be able to estimate his skills and aibilities.

Regards

Christian

(until now I've never sat on a motorbike)

XDream also has an excellent ride report in English on ADVRider, you should definitely check it out for an idea about how quickly you can go. You can definitely get from Ulan Ude to Yakutsk in four days and from Yakutsk to Magadan in 4-5 days along the new road (which by the way is quite nice, not too boring, but pretty easy) without any problem, although you should probably schedule a maintenance/rest day or two in Yakutsk after the rattling you'll take on the Lena highway.

I would definitely spring for the business visa just in case, why put yourself under such time pressure just to save a few bucks, probably some fraction of a percent of your overall budget?

Ditto to what Motoreiter said ... its doable, but I would get the business visa too.

Too little room for error if something goes wrong.
