Tyres for the road of bones

What Tyres Do You All Reccomend For The Infamous Road. Runnnig K60s At The Mo, But Have Never Used Them Before I'm Guessing By The Time We Have Been Through Mongolia They Will Have Done Around 6-7000 Miles Obviously I'll Check To See How Good They Are Nearer The Time, Was Wondering If A More Knobbly Tyre Might Be Better For That Part Of The World, Ie A Karroo Depending On What Dean Has Available

Metz Karoos are Rubbish. I had one in Novosirbisk and by the time I got to Mongolia they were looking decidedly slick.

A Trelleborg army special is a good tyre terrible on the road though as they are made of plastic and terrifcally noisy too with a nasty high pitched whine on tarmac. I took it from Middle of Turkey all the way to Irkutsk where it was donated to Tony P, who then took it all the way to Magadan via the artic circle and only then had it worn down significantly.

Shipped the bike to Vlad then got 1000km more to Khabavosk where it was looking like a new Metz Karoo.

The tyre I gave him was cursed though as he kept getting tons of punctures on it

I reckon with a front and rear trelleborg you won't need spare tyres at all unless you do the uber rough stuff.

A more knobbly tyre that Dean does have, and that I have used, are the Heidenau K74 rear and K69 front.

They aren't great on asphalt (especially above 70 mph) but are a proper off road tyre, so cruising on graded gravel roads will be a piece of cake for them. To be honest if your tread is still good, I would stick to the K60s. If they need replacing, consider the K74 / K69 combo.

Hi,

I can recomand the Mitas E07. It took me all the way through africa. It lasts forever and you can do offroad as well as tarmac without loosing the nopes.

Have fun, Tobi
