Tyre availability in Almaty
Hey,
As i'm in Russia at the moment but head for Almaty in a couple of days, i'd like to know or i can find tyres in Almaty. Didn't find anything usefull in Novosibirsk and will move 2morrow to Omsk. Than into Kazachstan. Does anyone knows or there are tyres to get in Almaty. I thought i read something about this on the HUBB but can't find it. Thank you guys! Cheers, Bossit! |

The only advice I could give you would be to check with Silk off road: SilkOffRoad | motorcycle tours and enduro tours in Central Asia They won't necessarily have tyres, but there surely know where to find them.
There surely are other addresses, but I'm not aware them. Hope that helps. Ride safe.

your best bet is Novosibirsk or Omsk I think ... the choice in Almaty will not be as good.
There are two places that will have tyres in Almaty ... Motoboard and Stoppy Stars ... See Henn's link on one of your previous posts for details |

Stoppy stars ordered in a range of stuff for us and it all arrived from the US within a week.

Hey guys,
Thanks. Colebatch, i've stopped in Novosibirsk to have a look around but couldn't find a tyre. And i know some people in Omsk, and they looked as well. Also in Omsk i didn't find any. So my best option for now is Almaty i guess. And maybe Stoppy Stars, as Henn mentioned. Bossit.

Motoboard is probable the best place in Almaty for tyres ... the guy has a few tyres in the shop and he also has a lot more tyres (some new some used) at his home address, where he does the tyre fitting. Motoboard is at ..., N43 16.320 E76 57.637

Colebatch - are mytown moto still going in Almaty? Those guys were a riot, my mechanical problems turned into quite an amusing farce/adventure for all concerned!

They are just called "KZ Motors" now ... Its a chaotic looking workshop place, but at least they have a bar, and a chinese restaurant next door. And as bad and chaotic as they may look, they found the mysterious pick up coil problem with my X-Challenge after only 4 days. As far as I know, I was the first one to have this problem. A polish guy a few months later had his bike in his BMW dealer for 6 weeks before they found the same problem. So as madhouse and chaotic as the place looks, I have to say they did a good job (and found the unusual problem 8 times faster than a BMW dealer) and I never had any follow up problems with the work they did. Anyone with an X-Challenge that has misfiring / refusal to fire, that turns out to be a metal dust shorting the pick up coil, owes the diagnosis to the boys at My Town Motors / KZ Motors. |
