Trans Siberian railway to Vladivostok

Does anyone have any information on taking a bike from Moscow to Vladivostok on the trans Siberian railway, l,ve hear theres a weight limit of 250kg which would be a problem for me as l,m on a BMW R100GS and thats over the limit with luggage. would finding a bike shop and getting them to crate it and send it as cargo work?

My Russian is quite basic but l,m trying to improve :smartass: so l,m guessing just turning up blindly and trying to talk my way into getting the bike on unlikely to work (have been to Russia by bike before).

You can try to get it on the passenger train.

I tried to get my 250cc on the Trans Si from Irkutsk to Moscow in 2002. Tried for 3days spoke to everyone I could but had no luck.

Getting it on a separate cargo train arriving at the destination the next day was possible and they could crate it right at the office for a reasonable fee.

Id imagine this is possible going the other way, its up to you if you want to be seperated from your machine or not.

Its a beautiful country, why dont you ride it again?

Leaving around early august and heading over to japan and back through Mongolia and the stans so want to be out before it gets too cold, so the train would save me alot of time.

If you are going to ride back anyways, why don't you ship directly to Japan?
It will save you at least one round of headaches with the infamous Vladivostok customs house. That would also probably give you more time in Mongolia and the Stans. Note that you will need a carnet for Japan.
(Sorry that this is an alternative suggestion instead of an answer to your question!)
