What's so mysterious about the road around never? I've been on the stretch west of never, but not east, and that stretch was newly and well paved There's a decent hotel on the north side of the highway about 2 km east of the turn off to Yakutsk, probably something in town as well. Not much else for a few hundred km west of there.

Clearly, as you know, nothing at all is mysterious about anything on the Trans-Sib. The OP asks for advice, doesn't like the answers, so asks the same question again in a different post, seemingly still doesn't like the answer, then goes large about something that happened in the United States 168 years ago.

If I were the OP I would avoid eastern Siberia in particular and Russia in general. It's all very dangerous, wild and untamed .

He hasn't berated anyone for their username yet !

Brother NORCAL'er . . . you can ride the TransSib on a GoldWing without much drama unless you need a new 18" front tire for that beast.

Shortcuts ? Try using Yahoo maps to find a good way to drive from Tahoe to Sierra City. It'll send you over Henness Pass Road. You'll not EVER forget that ride in anything that's not setup for the Rubicon. And if you get lost (yeah, on a single road, surprisingly easy in the Sierra), and get to Tyler Foote Bridge Rd, something Chinese coolies built for the Gold Rush . . . you'll walk it. Makes the drop from the Vitim Bridge look like a kid's diving competition.

You can also ride a 3-wheeler (as long as it has a blinged winch on the front)... along the Trans-Sib. This bike did in 2013

Garywegener,

The guys are right
I rode from Barnaul to Vladivostok last year and had no issues at all mate.
The road around Never is pretty new and there are numerous new truck stops and cafes in the area. In July of 2013 there were stretches of road torn up (ready for resurfacing) about 200 kms east of Never all the way to Khabarovsk.
The city of Birobidzhan is en route and is a very clean and friendly town with an amazing story to tell if you get the chance to stay there a while. They were also trying to widen the road in sections from Khabarovsk to Vladivostok. I was still able to pull an average of 1000kms per day on a DR650 with my travel buddy Ulf on his XT600. You will also encounter many Russian Bikers that will be only too happy to help you out in a pinch. We could learn a thing or two from their hospitality.
In a nutshell, you'll be fine

Safe travels and kindest regards
Nevil

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
