Question Trans-Russia in Feb/Mar??

Hi! I'm in Iran at the moment on the way round from England to Japan on an xt660. I'd love to go back to England through Russia, perhaps dipping into Mongolia and Khazakstan. Can anyone advise me on the earliest date I could consider setting off to ride through Russia - I'm not sure I can afford to keep travelling until April/May when the season begins to change. Is there a more southerly route perhaps (can't do China though by the look of things) which would allow me to leave Japan around Febuary/March to arrive in UK about April/May or are weather and road conditions just too difficult in these winter months. Any advice would be very much appreciated, cheers, Jasper

I don't recomend you to do it earlier then in May and please forget about March. In april it's still snowfalls from time to time.
Good luck!

I am with RuRider

February is the coldest month of the year, and March is only slightly warmer.

Maybe maybe maybe you could do mid-late April, if you also happen to be lucky

Yap! And if you will take your skies with you.
Please wait till May at least! We do still have snow in April from time to time. You will see just naked trees and mud, sutisfaction that "I did it" the only thing that you'll get. The time when everythin is green and happy starts at middle of may.
Good Luck

Russian bears in spring

Thanks a lot for replies - looks like I'll be waiting till may!
On more question...just wondering if bears actually pose a serious problem to camping etc in spring or is this mostly exaggerated? Cheers, Jasper

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
