The Dorah and Broghol Passes - Afghanistan

Hi,

I have been looking through the forums to find information on crossing Afghanistan from Pakistan to Tajikistan. I cant seem to find any information on the Dorah or the Broghol Pass to Ishkashim.

Does anyone know what the situation is on these Passes?

Thanks

Hi, on my pamir map it looks like a footpath, do you want to cross it on a vehicle? + I'm not sure about permits, you would need. I think you could find some information in the LP forums. Kind regards Christian

if it ever happens it will be a nice way to avoid that corner of China in linking Southern and Central Asia. We dont so much need a highway, just a border post between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the region would probably be enough.

At the moment you have to go to the Khyber pass. VinceK100 crossed from Tajikistan to Pakistan via Afghanistan in a bike (with sidecar) in 2009 but had to go via the Khyber Pass.

It is eerie how there are no posts about the Wakhan corridor area for quite some time and then two come along, more or less together.

To put a bit of context to this possible new road, this blog provides a general background about the usually accepted explanation for the existence of the Wakhan corridor:-
Afghanistan on my mind: What IS the Wakhan Corridor?
It amounts to a political decision, combined with convenient local geography, to the effect that the Wakhan corridor has not been intended to be crossed north-south during recent history.
Resolving the politics of 3 adjacent countries with their own, well known internal problems is not something that will happen tomorrow.
