Jeep trip from Nukus to Aral Sea: join in or give some hints!

Hey!

Together with a friend of mine, we are planning to rent a jeep in Nukus at September 3, and to go for two days to see what has remained from the Aral Sea.

JOIN IN PART:
The jeep rent cost, including gas (and maybe also an experienced driver to get there) are quite probably 400-450$, so divided into 3 or 4 would be respectively 133-150 or 100-113 $/person. The possible detours on the way are the ancient zoroastrian cemetery Mizdahkan, and (less probably, due to several reasons) former soviet secreat bioweapon city, Kantubek/Aralsk-7. If you are interested, let me know: rpkostecki % gmail.com.

HINTS NEEDED PART:
Do you have any hints regarding: 1) how one can get a jeep in Nukus that would be cheap and reliable, and "equipped" with an experienced driver, 2) what are precise (or rough) GPS locations for a shipwrecks at Uzbekistan's part of Aral Sea area exept of Moynaq?, 3) is it possible and how to get to Kantubek without meeting any guards/blockposts/other people?, 4) are there any other interesting places around accesible by a jeep?

I can't give you too much detail as we traveled by motorbike and then only from Nukus to Moynaq.

The courtyard next to the Jipek Joli Hotel is the best place to hang out and meet other travellers and the staff there are able to organise transport to the sea. Failing that we ran in to several tour operators at the carwash on the south side of town while we were washing our bikes, I think they were quoting around $300US for trips to the sea.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
