Bike Hire in North India-Where??

Hi folk
Im currently in Islamabad and fancy hiring a bike in India to do the ladakh loop, I dont really want to go down to Delhi but if i have to i will.

Could you help me with a shop name or e mail address and maybe the cost for a months hire of an enfield or maybe a small jap bike.

Thanks for the help

I'm afraid that the options are limited north of Delhi.
In Manali you can rent Enfields, and a range of indian made bikes, but most of these cannot go outside of Himachal Pradesh state.
We rented a bike from Anu (just outside of Manali near Vashist)
We were lucky as this time of the year his bikes are usually all rented out. We paid 300 rupees per day (3 week hire) It was the first and only enfield we rode, so hard to tell if it was any good. All i can say is that the bikes are tuned to chug over the high passes easily, but expect breakdowns. We had issues with wheels, brakes, battery and gear shifing. What I didn't like is that they don't forsee any tools with the bikes for emergency repairs. They were really easy going with the deposit though. here's his contact:
anuautoworks @ hotmail . Com
mobile: 981613378 and 9816172338
comes to me now, you can rent bikes in Leh as well, but the enfields there are real crap compared to what we had. All the people we talked to had breakdowns even on 2 day hires....

As long as you're not in a rush you'll be ok with the enfields, foresee a few days in your schedule for roadside breakdowns, lorry rides into the next town and quests for spares....

If you can: go to pangong lake, it's stunning

Cool

I did an organised tour a couple of years ago with this crowd;www.classicbikeindia.com
Although I was in the south, I know they do tours and rent bikes up in the ladakh area as well.
Could do worse than try.It was a really well set up op in Goa.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
