Helicoil??

Hi guys, I need to get a helicoil fitted as one of the clutch cover bolts on my xt600 has given up. Failing that I need to get it drilled out and tapped for a bigger bolt.
Need a shop in either Pavlodar (Kazakhstan) or maybe Barnaul ( Russia) any help would be greatly appreciated.

Barnaul felt like a reasonably big city, and they had a pretty big hardware/tradesmans shop there (afraid I can't give directions, but it was a few streets west of the main street in town). Undoubtedly they would have helicoils. So if you can make it there and ask around you will find something to fix it.

Most likely you will also find a fellow biker who will invite you home and insist you stay and eat while he fixes your bike. That tends to happen in Russia...

Stripped 6mm bolts

Just some info on the problem of stripped bolts. the 6mm stripped out hole is ready for a 1/4 by 20 SAE tap and then a 1/4 20 bolt/allen bolt will fit right in. Depends on the availability of SAE bolts but sometime is much simpler of a fix. Beware boring out the hole too big for a thread insert.

When you say clutch cover do you mean pressure plate or the external cover of the engine? You can quite often make a temporary repair by fitting a longer bolt. You will no doubt find a suitable one somewhere on the bike. If its the external cover and there is no oil leakage and the bolt is not next to the clutch release arm i would not worry too much.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
