st petersburg - recommended hostels

Hi,
There are a group of us planning a trip into Russia and the first place of stay is to be St Petersburg. Seen a few hostels on the internet has anyone got any recommendations as to places to stay in the city.We are trying to keep costs down so I presume a hostel will be the best way. Do any of the hostels come with parking areas for the bikes. cheers K.:)

I can highly recommend Cuba Hostel. Really cool place and the 20 people dorm was in a great condition and lick-that-floor clean when I was there. Old House, high ceilings, own bar with the cheapest beer you'll find and a lot of nice people.

But I think they don't offer parking as it's on the second floor. But the staff can probably arrange something for you cause they were really amazing while I stayed there. Blond Girl at the reception, she's world-class.

Location was amazing. But it is a backpacker place, so if you don't like the bar, arty, "what-do-you-mean-it's-2-at-night-and-you-want-to-sleep" things happening maybe not.

But if you want to have a few fun days, unbeatable.

Kelv, it really doesn't matter where you stay in Russia you are going to have to pay extra for secure parking - even the hotels will charge extra for parking.

As a consequence, there are secure parks everywhere in town and I am sure whichever hostel you stay at will be able to direct you to the nearest - expect to pay around $1 (or 20-25 roubles per night per bike).

I was fortunate in that I got to stay with locals in St Petersburg - very nice ex-Military general's apartment - HUGE!, but I still had to find a secure park as no-one leaves a vehicle unattended on the street overnight in Russia.

With all due respect, this statement is rather silly. Probably 99% of Russians leave their vehicles unattended at night, either on the street or their apartment's courtyard.

That said, by all means try to put your moto in guarded parking. If you can't find guarded parking, at least put it out of sight in a courtyard, preferably under a cover.

Hello!
I recommend that you keep bikes only parking in Russia. And at the same time try to lock the wheels and steering wheel to lock. If you have a tent for a motorcycle - it is better to use it.
The danger for your motorcycle to represent not the people who want to steal your bike, and ordinary street thugs ....
Car owners leave them in the yard because the garage is not at all, and not everyone wants to pay money, hoping for an alarm system.

very good way to avoid problems - to make contact with Russian motorcyclists, who will meet you, help with parking and possibly even show local attractions.
Find them can be like on this site which is also dedicated to Moto travel
