Shipping bike from Almaty to UK/US?

Bit of a sad post unfortunately...

I fell near Almaty (will post a comprehensive report and pics later) and broke my clavicle, have had a titanium rod put inserted to brace it, and will be recovering, and unable to ride for at least 2 months according to the doc.

I'm still weighing up options (leave the bike here vs get it back home etc), if i go with the latter does anyone know any contacts and feasibility of getting a bike from Kazakhstan to either the UK or the US?

Thanks

Hi Philip
Sorry to hear about your mishap. The pics on fb of the injury look painful.

Sent you an email with some hopefully useful information.

Good luck and best wishes
Chris

Thanks guys, an update from me. I'm headed back to the UK to recover and get my surgery double checked. I've left my bike with a mechanic here, and will come back to finish the trip once able!

I did find a good Almaty mechanic: MCC Motors Almaty. mcc-motors.kz, mcc-motors.com. 8 701 551 4898, 8 707 224 5224

Some friends of friends of mine live in Almaty, and it turns out they ride real bikes: DRZ650 etc and thats where they said was the best place in the city to get it serviced.

I saw how they treated my bike, and they seem to know what they are doing: fixing bent rims, they carry good oils and basic spares, they can do basic metal fabrication (redoing bolts etc).

Walter - worth adding as a way point.

I'm still trying to diagnose what caused my falls, but im sure its something in/around the steering column.

thanks
PJ

Dude ... its already on the waypoint file. Been there from the beginning. Its on there as "Almaty - mytownmotors" ... now they just call themselves motors. But everyone passing thru gets their bikes serviced there. You should have seen about 20 sets of bike trip logo stickers on the gates, mine included.
