Shakenso-Japan

Hello!
I need to get hold of the original registration documents from two bikes originally registered in Japan, and then imported to the UK.

I foundt out that MLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastrucure & Transport) is the place to apply. Their web page didn`t give any contact information. I only got the framenumbers, so the general office in Okinawa seems to be the place to go.

Anybody out there got their email address etc?

Best regards and thanks
John

You would need to contact the Land Transportation Office (LTO) where the bikes were originally registered. Do you have the plates that were on the bikes? I can read the Kanji on these plates so I could at least confirm that Okinawa is the place you need to contact.

I think I can find the contact information for any LTO easily enough but then the trick is finding someone who can speak English.

I'm sure there are some on this forum with Japanese skills to help with that, if necessary.

Hope it goes well.

shakenso!

Thanks for your reply!
Sorry, don`t have the original plates. The bikes were imported into the UK 10 years ago, so all previous documents are gone. So all I have is the frame numbers. So I was hoping that the general office in Okinawa has records off all the bikes registered in Japan, by their frame numbers.

Another solution would be to contact Honda Japan directly. All I really need is an official document stating the max allowable weight of the bike (incl. rider etc). The workshop manual won`t do. The importers here in Norway were not able to help.
Again, going to Honda`s websites in Japan didn`t help me much in getting contact information.

The bikes are Honda Bros 400 and 650.

I don't know why you want the office in Okinawa if you don't know where the bikes were registered. Okinawa is just one of the prefectures in Japan, and definately not a central office.
But the phone number is +81-98-877-5140 if you want it.
I doubt that anyone would have data for particular bikes that were deregistered and exported 10 years ago.
I think your best bet would be to contact Honda through Honda UK.
To get a shakensho (registration document) reissued, you need to know whose name they were registered in.

While I can't be 100% sure, I don't thin the Bros 650 was sold in Japan 10 years ago. Due to licensing restrictions 750cc was usually the next class after 400 at that time. So, the may have been imported from somewhere other than Japan.

This Honda website in Japanese gives the specs. The bike weight is the part marked kg in the specs.

This site gives the gross vehicle weight, however it is not an official Honda site.

I wouldn't count on getting a reply to e-mail even if they had an address made public.

Hello!
Perhaps it's better to write a letter (snail mail)? I had good results with that.
